Painting: The Old Homestead
I just finished varnishing this piece on 24 × 18 gallery mounted canvas. I’ve been wanting to do more country homes and homestead paintings and this was my first foray.
When I drive down the back roads of Eastern Tennessee, I often see these grand old homes sitting on the edge of acres of farmland. I see the large porches and think what it must have been like to grow up in these places where the day was long and hard, but the nights were peaceful. Where families gathered for dinners on Sundays and holidays and every generation lived together. A world so far from the one I grew up in. It is an idealized view, for sure, but I have to think some of these homes saw some wonderful memories.
Here are a couple videos of the process of this painting. I’m still learning how to record these in a way that captures the journey, but doesn’t distract from the actual work.
